When parents walk into our kindergarten
room, they will see a room full of children
playing. Like most parents, you will
probably wonder what your child is learning
and why they are playing.
Many people in countries all over the
world have studied young children and their
play. These studies have shown that
young children learn a great deal while
they are involved in play activities, and
what they learn will be assisted by the
various materials and activities provided
Play is a valuable part of the kindergarten
program because it gives the children the
opportunity to investigate, discover, question,
share, create, construct, communicate, problem
solve, role play and internalize and explore
meaning in their environment.
Distinct interest areas are created inside
– blocks, home corner, book corner, puzzles,
art/craft activities, collage area, table/manipulative
toys. Outside, there are areas for the children
to climb, dig, swing, run, and play games.
Each area has various program goals and
objectives in mind, so no matter where the
children choose to play, they are learning.
The staff will be encouraging your child
to participate in an interesting and varied
balance of real life and make believe play
Our Kindergarten aims to promote a meaningful
and positive partnership with parents through
the exchange of information about your child's
experiences and interests.
Families are able to be involved in the
process of documenting their child's learning
journey through our portfolio system used
in the four year old program.
Parents are encouraged to talk to staff
about their values and expectations for
their child. This collaboration is a fundamental
element in the development of a meaningful
curriculum for the individual child. Parents also play a valuable role through
their involvement in activities such as
kinder duty and working bees.
Coming along to kinder duty is a great
way find out about the current program themes
and to have an informal chat about your
child with Staff.
